The mass media has weaponized them over the last ten years that it is perfectly fine to spew hate and bully anyone who doesn't agree with their beliefs or agenda. They aren't going to give up their fear driven hate because of a "technicality".
Adobe Firefly has licensed content for training but they don't give it a by because you're putting "humans" out of work and whatever you generate has no "soul".
Four of my books are in the database and were used for training. I'm not going to get all upset about it because I got paid my royalty for those books just as everyone else did. I made the decision to sell to libraries. I don't get additional money from the borrows, so why get upset if someone downloads my book from a file-sharing site since I don't get paid for that either?
Ethically, the personswho uploaded my books to those sites are the villains because they violated my terms on the copyright page.
You're 100% right Fred -- and yeah -- anyone who had eyes would've known that this, a fully licensed image gen AI -- was coming back in those Adobe days and would not have hung their hat on the 'ethics' hook, but they didn't want to think ahead.
